Halloween Concert Soloist

The Halloween Concert will feature band member Robert Carroll performing "Variations on a Theme of Robert Schumann" by William Davis. The theme of the work is also known as "The Little Farmer".
Robert L. Carroll,
baritone saxophone, graduated with a Ph. D. from the
University of Connecticut in 1973. Dr. Carroll has played in a large number of musical organizations. He
has played at Carnegie Hall, at the Kennedy Center, at the Concertgebouw
Amphitheater in Holland, at Heidelburg University, and at the Yale University School of Music. He
played in the premiere of Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis, and in actor/comedian
Bob Hope’s stage band. Dr. Carroll toured in various capacities in western Europe,
China, and Russia (the latter in 1998). Dr. Carroll has been seleted to premiere
three compositions by composer Walter S. Hartley: most recently at the University of Louisville
in 2005. He is a student of saxophonist George Etheridge, has studied with the noted tenor
saxophonist James Houlik, and with members of the Rascher Saxophone Quartet. Currently
Dr. Carroll plays in the Capital Wind Symphony, the Vienna Saxophone Quartet,
the Riverside Saxophone Quartet, the Fairfax Symphony Summer Band, the Concordia
German Band, and the Vienna Community Band. Dr. Carroll is Professor at George
Washington University, and is founder of the Vienna Saxophone Quartet.
