March Concert Soloist
During the 2006-2007 concert season, the Vienna Community Band will be featuring a special member of the band to solo for each major concert.
The March Concert will feature band member Dominic Favia performing the first movement of the trumpet concerto in e-flat by Joseph Haydn.
At age 13, Dominic Favia is the youngest member of the Vienna Community Band. He started playing trumpet at age 9, and soon realized that he loves to play. He also loves to perform, and does so frequently. He has been a semi finalist in the National Trumpet Competition three times and won the International Trumpet Guild Youth Competition Junior Division in June 2006. He placed second (elementary division) and third (middle school division) in the Fairfax County Band Director’s Solo Competition. He is co-principal trumpet in the American Youth Symphonic Orchestra. In addition, he has performed for the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Optimist Club, and played in the St. John Neumann production of It takes a Shoemaker. He won the under 19 Historic Division on baroque trumpet and won second place in the Middle School Division of the National Trumpet Competition in March 2007.
Dominic studies with Tim Ryan, Steven Hendrickson (principal trumpet National Symphony Orchestra) and Mark Wood (Army Blues Band). He studies the baroque trumpet with Stanley Curtis (Navy Band). He has been studying piano since age 5, and also takes voice lessons.
In his spare time, he runs this website, produces the programs for the band, and is an honor student at Thoreau Middle School. But mostly he likes to play the trumpet.
